Hollins Scores First, Generals Take Game

Roanoke, NC - Hollins University Soccer vs Washington and Lee University, October 1, 2013

Box Score

On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, the Hollins University soccer team hosted ODAC power Washington and Lee University.  The Generals came into the match with a perfect 4-0 conference mark while Hollins was looking for their second ODAC win of the season.

Washington and Lee controlled play early in the match sending a pair of shots off the goal post.  About 18 minutes into the game, Hollins responded by sending a long pass into the General zone to provide the home team with their first quality score chance of the afternoon.  Maran O'Neill took the long pass and looked up the field at a trio of W&L defenders.  O'Neill split a pair of defenders and dribbled past the third to take a solid shot that beat the General's keeper to give Hollins the lead 1-0.  Hollins kept the lead until about midway through the first half.  In a three minute span, the Generals scored a piar of goals to take their first lead of the contest and carry that 2-1 lead into the break.

Less than 10 minutes into the second, Washington and Lee took control of the game by scoring two goals in less than a minute to build their lead to 4-1.  Five minutes later, Becca Dunn scored her third goal of the match to push the lead to four.  Another General goal ended the scoring and when the final horn sounded it was W&L with the 6-1 ODAC victory.
