Hollins Can't Stop Generals |
Roanoke , VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Washington & Lee University, September 22, 2009 |
|
The Hollins University soccer team hosted ODAC power Washington & Lee on Tuesday afternoon. The Hollins defense continued to play strong holding the Generals to just a lone goal in the first half. Washington & Lee got off to a quick second half start and went on to win 6-0. Hollins had a great chance midway through the first half to strike first but keeper Emily Leary was able to get her fingertips on a Brooke Bruce (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay), pictured left, shot that just cleared the crossbar. Colleen Thamm (Manassas, VA/Battlefield) also had a good scoring opportunity turned away by Leary. Hollins keeper Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) recorded a season high 15 saves but it was the W&L corner kick that proved to be Hollins downfall. Washington & Lee scored on three of their 11 corner kicks. Hannah Sackfield had two beautiful corners that were headed in by Kat Barnes and Maggie Sutherland. Ainsley Daigle scored on a bending corner kick as well. Daigle scored two goals and Laura Yungmeyer and Roz Klann added a goal apiece. Hollins steps out of conference on Saturday afternoon when they host Warren Wilson College from Asheville, NC. The match will start at 2:00pm |
