Nationally Ranked Hornets Too Much for Hollins

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Lynchburg College, October 15, 2013

Box Score

Tuesday afternoon saw Hollins with their toughest test to date, as the 13th ranked Lynchburg Hornets came to town for an ODAC matchup.  Hollins came into the game with the Hornets having won their previous two ODAC games while Lynchburg entered the contest with a perfect 7-0 conference mark.

Hollins needed to get off to a good start against the Hornets but couldn't get anything going in the opening minutes.  Just over seven minutes into the game, the Lynchburg offense got the scoring going when they scored their first of the afternoon.  Hollins just missed a golden opportunity to tie the game when Dani Franklin (Chesapeake Beach, MD) sent a long pass over the Hornet defense to a streaking Becca Logan (Culloden, WV).  However the Lynchburg defender hustled back to prevent Logan from getting off a clean shot on the Hornet net.  Lynchburg quickly recovered and scored three more goals over the game's next six minutes.  As the halftime horn sounded, Hollins found themselves on the short end of a 7-0 score.  The second half was more of the same as 11 different Hornets got into the scoring column en route to a 12-0 ODAC win.

The Hollins offense struggled to get anything going against one the nation's best defenses.  Starting keeper Megan McKee (Madison, AL) recorded eight saves before giving way to Christina Havrila (Ruckersville, VA).  Havrila also recorded eight saves as Lynchburg sent 28 shots on the Hollins goal.

Jessie Gonzalez and Morgan Singer led the Lynchburg attack with two goals apiece.  Jade Woll added a goal and an assist while nine different Hornets added individual goals.

Hollins will travel to face Randolph-Macon on Saturday.  Hollins will go into the matchup with the Yellow Jackets with identical, 3-5, ODAC records.
