Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Eastern Mennonite University October 27, 2009

The Hollins University soccer team took the field for their final ODAC match of the season when then hosted Eastern Mennonite University on a cold, rainy Tuesday afternoon.  Neither team could get much going on the wet, slick field.  However with time winding down in the first half, the Royals scored on a great pass (Jordan Barkus) and shot (Valerie Burton) with just 36 seconds left until the half.  Eastern Mennonite then took advantage of two costly Hollins fouls and scored on a Burton penalty shot and a Courtney Shifflett direct kick in the first five minutes of the second half.  The Royals then struck again five minutes later and despite a Hollins rally late, the Royals went on to the 4-1 ODAC win.

Hollins started the match by recognizing their two seniors, Colleen Thamm (Manassas, VA/Battlefield), top, and Kelsi Orsak (Danbury, TX/Brazoswood).  The two were making their final appearance in a Hollins uniform and they did not disappoint the crowd that stayed despite the terrible conditions.  Late in the match, Orsak sent a long high pass into the box and Thamm headed it home for her 28th career goal.  The two received a standing ovation when they left the field for the final time in the last minute.

Hollins finished the season at 4-12-1, 2-9 ODAC.
