Hollins Earns First Victory of the Season

Swannanoa, NC - Hollins University Soccer at Warren Wilson College September 7, 2013

Box Score

After a season opening loss at Ferrum on Wednesday, the Hollins soccer team was again on the road when they traveled to Warren Wilson College on Saturday afternoon.  It was the second of three road games to start the season for a Hollins squad looking gain some much needed experience before the start of conference play in the ultra-competitive ODAC.

Hollins wasted little time in gaining the advantage against the home standing Owls by scoring just three minutes into the contest.  Less than 10 minutes later, Hollins again found the back of the net to take a two goal lead.  Hollins was unable to build on their lead and with less than 10 minutes to play in the half, Warren Wilson was able to cut the Hollins lead to one going into the break.  Five minutes into the second frame, Becca Logan (Culloden, WV) beat the Owl's keeper for the third time on the afternoon to give Hollins a 3-1 lead.  Warren Wilson cut the lead to one but a fourth Hollins goal was too much for the home team to overcome and Hollins picked up their first win of the season.

Ashton Holliday (Lewisburg, WV) scored the first goal of her collegiate career.  Dani Franklin (Chesapeake Beach, MD) handed out three assists while Maran O'Neill (Bedford, VA) recorded her first helper of the season.  First year keeper Megan McKee (Madison, AL) stopped eight shots en route to picking up her first win in net.

Marissa Romeo and Bianca Canizio each scored unassisted goals for the Owls.

Hollins will have a quick turnaround as they stay in North Carolina to face William Peace tomorrow.  The matchup with the Pacers is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.
