Hornets Hand Hollins Road Loss

Winchester, VA - Hollins University Soccer at Shenandoah University, September 18, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins University soccer team went on the road for the first time against ODAC competition on Wednesday night.  After dropping their conference opener to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, Hollins went in search of their first ODAC win against the Hornets.

Hollins again struggled to get much going on the offensive end of the field.  Shenandoah took advantage of their early opportunities and 10 minutes into the matchup, the Hornets put one by the Hollins keeper to take the lead.  Over the next 13 minutes of play, the home standing Hornets added four goals to take a 5-0 lead into the break.  The intermission did little to slow down the Shenandoah attack.  After launching 20 first half shots, the Hornets added 16 shots and a pair of goals in the second half.  As the final buzzer sounded, Hollins had fallen on the road 7-0.

Ashton Holliday (Lewisburg, WV) and Dani Franklin (Chesapeake Beach, MD) lead Hollins in shots and shots on goal.  After and 18 save performance on Saturday, keeper Megan McKee (Madison, AL) stopped 16 Shenandoah shots.  McKee has stopped 52 shots this season, placing her third in the conference.

Danielle Burns and Kati Richardson each scored twice for the home team while Kelsie Luddington, Anna Wilson, and Courtney Boschert each added single tallies.  Four keepers, Erin Septer, Alyssa Jaghab, Kristen Barrickman, and Nicole Pratt combined for the shut-out.

Hollins will return home over the weekend as they step out of conference to face North Carolina Wesleyan at 11:00am.
