Hollins Can't Overcome Maroons

Salem, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Roanoke College, October 25, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins University soccer team traveled the short distance to Salem to face Roanoke College under the lights for a Friday night clash.  Hollins came into the matchup with the Maroons needing to win their final two ODAC games in order to qualify for the season ending ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament.

Roanoke College jumped on their visitors early by netting the first goal of the game just three minutes after the opening kick.  The Hollins defense settled in and kept the Maroons off the board for the next 20 minutes.  The midway point of the half saw the home team again figure out the Hollins defensive riddle and built a 2-0 lead.  A lead that they carried into the break.

The second half started with Roanoke again spending much of the time in the Hollins zone.  Hollins slowly started to wilt under the Maroons constant pressure and allowed three more second half goals en route to falling to their cross-town rivals, 5-0.

Hollins struggled to get much going on the offensive end as they spent a majority of the match defending their own net.  Megan Sauciuc (Monroe, NC) led the way in shots taken while keeper  Autumn Johnson (Rocky Mount, VA) saw 35 shots come her way.  Johnson made 11 saves on the 16 Roanoke shots that were on net.

Ashley Barnes scored the game's first three goals, one on an assist by Linnea Kremer.  Jamie Donahue and Sara Celec each added a single goal for the Maroons.

Hollins will finish their conference regular season with a trip to Emory & Henry on Tuesday night.  The game with the Wasps is scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
