The Hollins University soccer team traveled across town to play Roanoke College under the lights on Wednesday night. The Hollins defense kept the match scoreless into the second half before the home standing Maroons wore down Hollins and went on to a hard fought 3-0 win. Keeper Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) and her defensive teammates were able to keep Roanoke off the board during the first half, running the Hollins scoreless streak to over 350 minutes. However just three minutes into the second half Roanoke got a goal from Steph Parenteau to break the tie. Hollins rallied and was able to keep Roanoke off the board for the next 20 minutes, but the Roanoke offense continued to attack the Hollins net and broke through with two more goals. The Hollins defense was hit with 32 shots, 11 on goal, during the match. Norkus recorded eight saves on the night, giving her 32 for the season. Hollins will continue on the road this Saturday when they travel to Randolph-Macon College for a 2:00pm start. |
