Hollins Struggles on the Road |
Ashland , VA - Hollins University Soccer at Randdolph-Macon College, September 19, 2009 |
|
Randolph-Macon played host to the Hollins University soccer team on Saturday afternoon. Hollins got off to a slow start and the Yellow Jackets took advantage early by scoring two quick goals and limiting the visitors to just one first half shot. Hollins found their legs but were unable to cut into the lead and fell 5-0. The Hollins defense did their best to keep the match close. First year defenders Erica Smith (Louisa, VA/Louisa Co.), pictured left, and Melissa Hubbard (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) teamed with Shannon Haluszczak (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell) and Kelsi Orsak (Danbury, TX/Brazoswood) to try and keep Randolph Macon off the board. The defense helped to keep 19 of the 30 Yellow Jacket shots from getting to goal. Keeper Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) made some incredible saves but the lack of any sustained Hollins offense made it tough to stop Macon. Norkus finished the match with six saves. Randolph Macon got two goals apiece from Amanda Nelms and Erin Hauser. Ashley Stover also scored a goal while Tory Suchoza and Ashley Malinowski had helpers. Hollins will return home to face ODAC power Washington & Lee University on Tuesday afternoon. The match will start at 4:30pm. |
