Hollins Pitches Shut Out of Vixens

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Sweet Briar College, October 13, 2012

Box Score

On a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon, Hollins played host to ODAC rival Sweet Briar College.  Hollins was looking for their second ODAC win of the season against a Vixen team that came in winless in league play.

Hollins dominated play from the opening whistle and controlled the ball in their opponents end for much of the first half.  Hollins enjoyed a 15-2 shot advantage in the first half, but was unable to build a sizeable lead on their guests.  Hollins did break through at the 13 minute mark and made it hold up, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.  The second half was much of the same with Hollins attacking the Vixen net with a barrage of scoring chances.  The Sweet Briar net minder played a solid game and made numerous point blank saves.  Hollins did mange to beat the Vixen keeper and build the lead to two.  The Hollins defense made the lead hold up and at the final buzzer the home team had shut out their rivals 2-0.

Hollins played most of the afternoon on the offensive end of the field, out-shooting Sweet Briar 32-3.  Leading scorer Becca Logan (Culloden, WV) got Hollins on the board in the first half when she took a pass from fellow junior Dani Franklin (Chesapeake Beach, MD) to score her 10th goal of the season.  The assist gave Franklin a team leading five helpers for the fall.  On an afternoon where the four Hollins seniors were honored, Sara Poole (Blue Ridge, VA) represented her class well by scoring the second Hollins goal on a beautiful feed by Maran O'Neill (Bedford, VA).  Keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) made one save on the only Sweet Briar shot that made it to net.

Sweet Briar struggled to get anything going and thanks to keeper Katherine Tillson and her 14 saves the Vixens were able to stay in the match all afternoon.

Hollins will face a tough task on Wednesday when they travel to ODAC and national power Lynchburg College for a 7:00pm contest.
