Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Roanoke College, October 5, 2012

Box Score

For the second time this season, Hollins played host to cross-town rival Roanoke College.  With the Maroons leading at the break, the first matchup was called due to weather and had to be started from the beginning on Friday afternoon.

Today's match started much like the original match back in September, with neither team getting much going in the early minutes.  Roanoke was able to break through at the 15 minute mark and after a second goal two minutes later, the Maroons enjoyed a 2-0 lead throughout the first half.  Hollins dodge a couple of close calls and trailed by just two goals at intermission.  The Maroons wasted no time adding to their lead as they scored less than two minutes into the second half.  After a fourth Maroon goal the match was all but over as the road team went on to take the ODAC matchup 6-0.

For the second consecutive match the Hollins offense was stagnant.  If not for a Kelly Hunt (Broadlands, VA) shot on the Roanoke net about midway through the second half, Hollins wouldn't have had any legitimate scoring chances.  The defense again put forth a spirited effort in front of keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) but the short handed Hollins squad couldn't keep Roanoke off the board.  Chesne recorded 15 saves as Roanoke got off 46 shots with 21 going on net.

Rebekah Adams got Roanoke on the board in the first when she scored off a perfectly placed corner kick by teammate Stephanie Parenteau.  Parenteau added a pair of goals while Carmen Graves, Kirstin Figel, and Candace Connolly scored a goal apiece.

Hollins will have some time off before returning to action next Thursday when they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan for an out of conference match.
