Hollins Can't Catch Jackets

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Randolph-Macon College, September 22, 2012

Box Score

Saturday marked the second of a three match home stand for a Hollins team that came in looking for an elusive ODAC victory.  Guilford knocked off Hollins on Wednesday and with Emory & Henry on the horizon, Randolph-Macon was the opponent on a perfect weekend afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets wasted no time in seizing control of the match.  Macon scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of play.  Hollins tightened up the defense and went into the break down 4-0.  Randolph-Macon ended any thoughts of a second half comeback by adding to their lead less than two minutes into the second stanza.  Hollins battled all afternoon and their persistence paid off as they found the back of the Yellow Jacket net late in the match but it wasn't enough as Hollins fell to their visitors from Ashland.

Cassie Pickens (Eagle Rock, VA) scored the lone Hollins goal, her second of the season, when she found a rebound off a shot and pounded it home.  Hollins struggled to get much going offensively with the exception of Dani Franklin (Chesapeake, Beach, MD).  Franklin got off half of the Hollins shots on the afternoon.  Keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) added 13 more saves to her season total.  Chesne's 94 saves currently lead the ODAC.

Erin Hauser scored three goals to lead Randolph-Macon.  Meredith Eckles and Lindsey Hall each added a goal and an assist.  Wren Hoyt, Katie Schwalen, and Nikki D'Ambra added goals for the Yellow Jackets.

Hollins will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Emory & Henry at 4:00pm.
