Hollins Slays WildCats for Two in a Row |
Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Randolph College October 22, 2011 On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, Hollins hosted Randolph College looking to win back to back games for the first time this season. After winning at Sweet Briar on Wednesday afternoon, Hollins was looking to jump on the WildCats early in the match-up. After a beautiful cross field pass, Hollins was able to get behind the Randolph defense and find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead mid-way through the first half. Both teams had a couple of scoring chances but neither could score and Hollins took the lead into the break. Hollins had a great chance early in the second half to build on the lead but the WildCat keeper made a highlight real save to keep the game close. Neither team got many chances to score until Hollins had a free kick that led to a great header that went just wide. The Hollins offense was able to keep the ball on Randolph's side of the field for a majority of the second frame en route to a 1-0 ODAC win.
Hollins scored the only goal of the game at the 25 minute mark of the first half. Morgan Wood (Rocky Mount, VA/Home Schooled) took a beautiful pass from defender Sarah Knox (Bedford, VA/Jefferson Forest), who had jumped up to support the rush, and put the shot away into the WildCat net. Later in the second half, Knox sent a free kick high into the Randolph zone and Erica Smith (Louisa, VA/Louisa) sent a header just wide. The Hollins defense was stout on the afternoon allowing only eight shots on goal. Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) recorded all eight stops and picked up her second shut-out of the season. Hollins will finish their season when they go for three in a row Tuesday afternoon. The season finale against Eastern Mennonite will kick-off at 3:30pm. |
