Hollins Can't Catch Marlins

Virginia Beach, VA - Hollins University Soccer at Virginia Wesleyan College, September 15, 2012

Box Score

The Hollins soccer team traveled to the coast for an ODAC match with Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.  Fresh off a home win against William Peace, Hollins was looking for back to back wins for the first time this season.

Hollins held their own early as neither team could get much going in the first 10 minutes of the contest.  The Marlins were able to break through at the 12 minute mark when they scored the first goal of the match on a 10 yard shot from the right side.  About midway through the first half the home team added another goal and took the two goal lead into the break.  Two more Virginia Wesleyan goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half all but ended Hollins chance of a road upset.  As the final buzzer sounded, the Marlins finished with an 8-0 ODAC win.

After scoring four goals just two days ago, the Hollins offense struggled for the second ODAC match in a row.  Virginia Wesleyan out-shot Hollins 32-2 on the afternoon.  Kelly Hunt (Broadlands, VA) led the visitors with two shots.  Keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) recorded 10 saves in the loss.

Virginia Wesleyan saw six different players find the back of the net led by Sarah Nickle and Kristen Cherry, each with two goals.  Jessica Edleman, Kaitlyn Clunan, Theresa Yunger, and Caitlyn Bishop also scored for the Marlins.  Erica Keil, Mackenzie, and Catherine Brown combined for the shot out in net.

Hollins will be back in action on Wednesday when they play host to Guilford College.  The ODAC match is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
