Hollins Comes Up Short |
Emory, VA - Hollins University Soccer at Emory & Henry College September 28, 2011 The Hollins soccer teamed drove two hours south to face Emory & Henry College on Wednesday night. Hollins went looking for their first ODAC win of the season against a Wasp team looking for the same. E&H struck first, less than 10 minutes in to game, and held a 1-0 lead throughout the first half. Both teams struggled to find offense and managed just two shots apiece during the first 45 minutes. The Wasps were able to again find the back of the net in the first five minutes of the second stanza. After another Wasp goal made it 3-0, Hollins was able to find the net themselves and trailed by two with almost 30 minutes remaining in the match. Neither team was able to score the rest of the way and Hollins feel to E&H by the final score of 3-1. In a game that saw only 14 total shots, Ashley Smith (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) scored, her first collegiate goal, on her only shot of the game. Hollins was held to just six shots, five on goal. Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) picked up two saves on the six E&H shots that were on target. Emory & Henry got two goals from Bethany Myer. Kasey Simmons accounted for the other Wasp goal. Haley Poland and Sarah Jerome combined to record four saves. Hollins returns home on Saturday where they will face ODAC and national power Lynchburg College at 2:00pm. |
