2010 SEASON WRAP-UP

The Hollins University soccer program continued its progress under coaches Carrie O’Keeffe and Landon Moore in 2010. The final record of 6-12 gave Hollins soccer its most wins since 1991. Making the feat more impressive, Hollins accomplished this record with no seniors. Although three-year-starter for the defense Shannon Haluszczak graduates a year early, Hollins is sure to build on the success of 2010’s young team.

Hollins’ first-year class was the most productive of the first years in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Five first-year students scored a total of 51 points on 21 goals and 9 assists. Becca Logan led the way with 19 points (8g/3a), followed by Dani Franklin with 12 points (6g/0a), Morgan Wood with 9 points (3g/3a), Sarah Knox with 8 points (3g/2a), and Ashlie Caldwell with 3 points (1g/1a).

The defense was anchored by another great season from junior goalkeeper Kristen Norkus, who finished the season with four clean sheets and an ODAC-best 180 saves. Erica Smith, also a junior, served as the heart of the defense and as team co-captain with Norkus. Smith played every minute of every game as she followed up on her 2009 All-ODAC Honorable Mention season.

"This is an exciting time to be a part of Hollins soccer. We are accomplishing things that this program has never done. Each day, we look forward to seeing how good we can be."

Coach Carrie O'Keeffe

History of Hollins soccer
In 1983, Hollins was one of the first four schools to compete in ODAC women's soccer. In its first year of conference play, Hollins played in the championship game against Randolph-Macon College, losing a close 3-2 contest—a phenomenal debut for Hollins soccer under coach Marjorie Berkley. Berkley coached the team through the mid-1980s, each year qualifying for the ODAC tournament.

In 2007, Hollins soccer entered a new era with the hiring of coaches Carrie O'Keeffe and Landon Moore. O’Keeffe’s collegiate career at the College of William and Mary and her professional playing experience with the Washington Freedom give her one of the most impressive resumes among Division III soccer coaches. Moore brings ODAC experience from his college career at Hampden-Sydney College as well as a wealth of coaching experience.
