Hollins Falls in Home Finale

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Sweet Briar College, April 13, 2013

Box Score

On a clear, windy, Saturday afternoon the Hollins lacrosse team defended Moody Field for the final time this season.  Hollins played host to ODAC rival Sweet Briar College in their 2013 home finale.  Hollins and the Vixens both came into the matchup looking to break through in the ODAC win column.

Before the game, Hollins took a chance to honor their four seniors.  Tenisha Reaves (Winchester, VA), Brittany Hanavan (Wilton, CT), Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD), and Lindley Taylor (Reston, VA) were honored prior the game's opening draw.

Once the game got started, it was dominated early by the visitors.  The Vixens score three straight goals in the games first six minutes of play.  Hollins answered but after another pair of Sweet Briar tallies, the home team took a timeout to try to regroup.  The stop in play did nothing to stop the Vixen momentum and at the break Hollins found themselves down by double-digits.  Hollins again found the net about midway through the second frame, but it wasn't near enough as Sweet Briar picked up their first ODAC win, 20-2.

Hollins leading scorer Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) scored a goal and assisted on another.  Wright also led the home team with three draw controls and added three ground balls.  Meg O'Brien (Chatanooga, TN) scored the other Hollins goal while Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) led the way with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.  In her final home game in net, Nicholson recorded 15 saves giving her 121 saves on the season.

Allison Hassard scored the games first three goals.  Olivia Hurt and Jessie Edington each added three goals while Hurt added a pair of assists and teammate Kimberly Orchowski handed out three helpers.  Caroline Baker and Katie Torretti split time in net and recorded three saves.

Hollins will finish their season next weekend with a trip to Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon.
