Hollins Can't Stop Yellow Jacket Attack

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Randolph-Macon College, March 16, 2013

Box Score

After playing in driving snow on Wednesday, Saturday couldn't have been nicer as Hollins played host to Randolph-Macon on a sunny and clear afternoon.  Hollins was back in ODAC action against an undefeated Yellow Jacket squad looking for their sixth win of the season.

It didn't take Randolph-Macon long to seize control of the action, scoring just one minute into the matchup.  The Yellow Jackets dominated play in their offensive end for most of the first half and when the clock hit :00, the visitors enjoyed a 12-0 advantage.  The second half was much of the same, seeing a majority of the play taking place in the Hollins zone.  Hollins did intercept a pass and take the ball straight to net to score late in the game.  When the final horn sounded Hollins had fallen to their ODAC rivals, 18-1.

The Hollins offense didn't enjoy much sustained time in the Yellow Jacket zone, but the home team did get a vast majority of their shots on net.  Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) scored the Hollins lone goal on one of her two shots on goal.  Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) fired a pair of shots on net while leading Hollins with three draw controls.  Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) led the Hollins defense by picking up five ground balls and causing a pair of Yellow Jacket turnovers.  Keeper Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD) recorded 12 saves while going the distance in net.  Hollins struggled to gain control of the ball, losing 17 of the game's 24 draws, leading to the home team being out-shot 33-6 for the afternoon.

Jenelle Whitman led Macon with four goals.  Kim Wright, Emily Lynch, Katie Russo, and Audrey Lester scored two goals apiece as 11 different Yellow Jackets scored on the afternoon.  Lynch and Russo also added three assists each while Nicole Woodworth picked up the win in goal.

With Spring Break starting yesterday, the Hollins lacrosse team will be off for the rest of the week before getting back to action next week.  After the break, Hollins will make the short trip across town to face off with Roanoke College.  The game with the Maroons will be played under the lights on Wednesday the 27th at 7:00pm.
