Hot Hollins Start Not Enough

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Randolph College, April 3, 2013

Box Score

Hollins played host to Randolph College on a clear, but windy Wednesday afternoon.  It was Hollins second straight home game after falling to new ODAC member Shenandoah on Saturday.  Both squads came into today's matchup looking for their first ODAC win of the season.

Hollins struck quickly claiming the lead less than a minute into the game.  The WildCats scored the games next three goals and appeared to be taking control of the action.  Hollins answered and after 10 minutes of play, the home team trailed 2-3.  With 18:28 left in the half, Randolph committed a penalty and had to play the next two minutes down a player.  With Hollins having all the momentum, it looked like they were going to have a chance to tie the score but the WildCats scored three times while playing down a player.  From that moment on, Randolph controlled the action and took a big lead into the break.  Hollins scored an early second half goal but couldn't close the gap as Randolph came away with a 22-4 ODAC victory.

Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) got Hollins off to a hot start by finding the back of the net less than a minute into play.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) led Hollins with five draw controls while adding a goal and a pair of caused turnovers.  Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) scored a goal on one of her two shots while Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) scored once.  Kelly Maxey (Leesburg, VA) led the Hollins defense with five ground balls and four caused turnovers and keeper Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD) recorded 10 saves.

Danielle Haney and Taylor Klevenz led the visitors from Randolph.  Haney scored six goals while handing out four assists and Klevenz added five goals and three assists.  Jess Anderson and Ashley Edwards each scored four times while Samantha Fagone and Sara Woodward split time in net for the WildCats.

Hollins will make the long trek to Virginia Beach to face Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
