Angels Withstand Hollins Rally

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Meredith College, March 13, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins lacrosse team opened the home portion of their 2013 season on a cold, snowy, Wednesday afternoon.  Meredith College came to do battle with a Hollins team playing on home turf for the first time in five games.  Hollins defeated their only other USA South foe when they bested North Carolina Wesleyan earlier this season.

The Avenging Angels struck first scoring the game's opening goals.  At the mid-way point in the first half, Hollins scored to cut the lead in half, 2-1.  Meredith tallied the next goal and with the minutes winding down, Hollins found themselves down by two.  A last minute goal by the visitors made the score 4-1 at the break.  After three unanswered Angel goals to start the second half, the match looked to be getting away from the home team.  However, three Hollins goals cut into the lead and with 10 minutes left in the game, Hollins had climbed to within three markers.  Meredith turned back the Hollins rally by scoring the final five goals of the afternoon en route to a 12-4 victory.

Hollins leading scorer Lindley Taylor (Reston, VA) scored twice giving her five goals on the season.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) added two goals and a game high five caused turnovers.  Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) recorded Hollins first assists of the season by handing out a pair of helpers.  Megan Sauciuc (Monroe, NC) led the way by picking up four ground balls and causing a pair of Meredith turnovers.   In net, Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD) again went the distance and recorded 10 saves giving her 41 for the year.

Danielle Lee scored the final four goals of the game, giving her five goals and an assists.  Lottie Meadows scored five goals and an assists while Katie Burnet added a goal and four assists.  Andie Stuber picked up the win in goal saving four shots along the way.

Hollins will step back into ODAC action on Saturday when they play host to Randolph-Macon College.  The game with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
