Game Hollins Squad Can't Finish Off Scotties

Rocky Mount, NC - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Agnes Scott at NC Wesleyan College , March 2, 2013

Box Score

Saturday marked a new era in Hollins lacrosse as the team opened the 2013 season under first-year head coach Danielle O'Leary.  Hollins traveled to Rocky Mount, NC to face Agnes Scott on a neutral field.  The Scotties came into the contest having played one game, a loss to Piedmont on February 20th.

Hollins fell behind early as Agnes Scott netted the first goal two minutes in the game.  Hollins quickly answered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 advantage at the 10 minute mark.  The Scotties re-took the lead but after a Hollins goal the game was tied, 3-3, with 18 Minutes left in the first half.  From that moment on, Agnes Scott seized control of the match-up by scoring five unanswered goals and went into the break with an 8-5 lead.  Hollins came out in the second half and cut the lead by scoring the first two goals of the second frame.  However, Hollins would get no closer as Agnes Scoot went on to an 11-5 victory.

Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) scored a pair of goals on her team high eight shots.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) scored a goal while picking up four ground balls and causing two turnovers.  Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) added a goal and four ground balls while Lindley Taylor (Reston, VA) scored her first goal of the season.  Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD) recorded 15 saves, on the heels of her 124 saves a season ago.

Agnes Scott was led by Alicia Logan with her five goals and two assists.  Caroline Recio completed a solid all-around game with three goals, one assist, seven ground balls, and four caused turnovers.  Lexi Pulice Farrow, Brittany Starr, and Monique Novoa added a goal apiece for the Scotties.

Hollins will stay in North Carolina overnight and face North Carolina Wesleyan tomorrow.  The game with the Bishops is scheduled to start at noon on Sunday afternoon.
