Marlins Turn Back Hollins

Va. Beach, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse at Virginia Wesleyan College, April 6, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins lacrosse team started the final four regular season games on their schedule with a trip to Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins came into their matchup with the Marlins looking for their first ODAC win of the season while their visitors found themselves sitting in the middle of the conference standings.

Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time, not letting Hollins gain their legs after the four hour trip, scoring 30 seconds into the contest.  Hollins never got much going during a first half that saw the home standing Marlins  build a double-digit lead.  The second half was more of the same as Hollins could not make a run at Virginia Wesleyan and fell on the road 19-2.

Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) scored her team leading eighth goal of the season.  Wright also led the team with four ground balls and caused two Marlin turnovers.  Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) scored for the second game in a row while Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) added a pair of ground balls.  Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD) recorded double-digit saves, 11, while going the distance in net.

Nikki Salyers led Virginia Wesleyan with four goals and three assists.  Carla Williams and Candace Carey each scored three goals while Amari Agee and Brooke Cabeceiras added two apiece.  Catie Amasia and Olivia Birmingham split time in goal.

Hollins will be home for the next two games.  ODAC leading Guilford will be the opponent on Wednesday.  The game with the Quakers is scheduled to start at 4:15pm.
