Cross-Town Matchup Goes to Maroons

Salem, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Roanoke College, March 27, 2013

Box Score

For the first time in over a week the Hollins lacrosse team was in action.  Roanoke College played host to their cross-town rivals in a matchup of ODAC squads.  For the first time this season, Hollins played under the lights with the game starting at 7:00pm.

The Maroons, selected second in the ODAC Women's Lacrosse preseason poll, scored three goals in the first minute and a half of the game.  Hollins answered with a goal of their own and trailed 3-1 in the early going.  The Maroons then took full control of the match-up scoring four goals in the next minute of play.  Hollins could not gain control of the ball and the home team took a big lead into the break.  The second half was more of the same as Roanoke went on to a 22-1 ODAC win.

Hollins couldn't get anything going on the offensive end of the field as the Maroons held their visitors to just one shot on goal.  Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) was able to find the back of the Roanoke net, her second tally of the season.  Deese also led the team with three ground balls while Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD) and Kelly Maxey (Leesburg, VA) added two ground balls each.  Nicholson again went the distance in goal for Hollins, recording nine saves.

Jamie Golden led the Maroons with four goals.  Rosie Knisley and Morgan Conroy scored three goals apiece while Darragh Evarts and Broghan McEnerney scored twice.  Knisley handed out five helpers while three Roanoke keepers combined for the win.

Hollins will be back at home on Saturday when they play host to newest ODAC member Shenandoah University.  The game with the Hornets is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
