Road Unkind To Hollins

Ashland, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse at Randolph-Macon College, March 21, 2014

Box Score

After having to wait a week to take the field due to the weather, Hollins was back in action on the road on Saturday afternoon.  With their annual matchup with rival Sweet Briar being postponed on Wednesday, Hollins traveled to face conference foe Randolph-Macon College on a warm, sunny day in Ashland.

Hollins struggled to find their legs as the homes tanding Yellow Jackets jumped on their visitors early in the contest.  A pair of Randolph-Macon goals in the opening minute gave Hollins a quick preview into how the afternoon would go.  The Yellow Jackets continued to play in the Hollins zone for much of the first half that saw the home team attempted 30 shots.  Hollins did mange to gain some offensive zone time but couldn't score on any of their five first half attempts and at he half, Randolph-Macon enjoyed a comfortable 14-0 lead.

Hollins battles for a loose ball

As the second half got underway, a road weary Hollins squad struggled to control the action as the Yellow Jackets maintained possession of the ball for much of the 30 minutes.  The Randolph-Macon offense continued to light up the scoreboard, netting nine second half goals.  Ball possession and a stingy defense didn't allow Hollins to get a single attempt in second frame as the home team cruised to a 23-0 ODAC win.

Leading scorer Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) didn't add to her team leading total but was able to attempt three shots while picking up three ground balls and causing one Yellow Jacket turnover.  Erin Staunton (Oak Ridge, NC) added a shot, three ground balls and one caused turnovers.  Maddie Horton (Irvine, CA) again went the distance in net and added eight more saves to her season total.

15 different Yellow Jackets scored on the afternoon led by Kristin Patrick and her three goals and one assist.  Six different players added a pair of goals and 11 different players handed out assists.  Allie Walker and Jamie Langbein split time in goal as the pair stopped every Hollins shot en route to the combined shutout.

Hollins will have a week off, as the campus will be shut down for Spring Break, before they resume their conference schedule.  Hollins will travel to face Shenandoah next Saturday for a 1:00pm start.
