Invitational Goes to Hollins

Daleville, VA - Hollins University Golf at 2012 Hollins Invitational September 16, 2012

Final Results

The Hollins University golf team opened their 2012 fall season by hosting the 2012 Hollins Invitational.  The two day event was held at Hollins home course, Ashley Plantation in Daleville, VA.  The course was played at par 72 and measured 5,834 yards while the field of 20 golfers featured five different colleges and universities.

With the ODAC sponsoring women's golf for the first time in 2012-13, two other ODAC schools competed in the event.  Hollins, Washington and Lee and Bridgewater joined Greensboro and Sewanee to compose the Invitational field.

Behind an opening round 332, Hollins took a 12 stroke lead over Sewanee into the start of play in day two.  With three Hollins golfers placing in the top five, Hollins bested their day one score by two strokes en route to a 28 stroke victory.  Hollins shot a team, two day total of 662.

Junior Elizabeth Cheng (Virginia Beach, VA) led the way for Hollins.  After shooting an opening round 79, Cheng fired a 76 to finish just two strokes out of medalist honors.  Those honors went to Sewanee's Emily Javadi on the back of her two day score of 153.  First year golfer Sydney Patrick (Flower Mound, TX) finished in sole possession of third place with her score of 161.  Fellow first-year Shelby Estes (Mt. Crawford, VA) carded an 80 on day two, tied for third best round of the day, and placed in a tie for fifth.  Gabby Rader (San Antonio, TX) rounded out the scoring for Hollins and finished just on spot outside the top ten.

Hollins will look to build on their season opening win next Saturday at the McDaniel Fall Invitational.  The one day event will be played at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbotstown, PA.
