Bill Mannino was named acting athletic director and chair of the physical education department in July 2014. He has been the head golf coach and a physical education instructor at Hollins since 2007. He has also served as faculty representative to the Student Athlete Advisory Council and chair of the ODAC women's golf coaches.
Mannino enjoyed a distinguished collegiate golfing career at Temple University. After graduating, he competed as a professional and went on to serve as an assistant golf professional at the Cricket Club of Philadelphia and the Roanoke (Virginia) Country Club. From 2001-2004, he was head golf coach at his alma mater.
In 2007 and 2008, Mannino led the Hollins golf team to a tournament victory at the St. Andrews Spring Invitational. Vicky Kasza's 16th place finish at the NCAA Championship, and her earning a spot on the All Eastern Regional Team, also highlighted the 2007-2008 season. He subsequently led the Hollins golf team to victory in the Gettysburg Spring Invitational in 2009-2010.
In the fall of 2010, Hollins was ranked 28th in the country after two top-three finishes at Piedmont College and the Naval Academy. This would be the first of three consecutive seasons where the Hollins golf team was included in the GolfStat National Rankings.
After a successful 2012-13 season, Mannino once again coached a golfer in the NCAA DIII National Tournament field. After winning the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate, Elizabeth Cheng finished in a tie for 12th at the national championships.
In addition to leading a pair of golfers to the NCAA National Tournament, Mannino has seen three golfers earn All American Scholar status. The ODAC started sponsoring women’s golf in 2012-13 and since then Mannino has helped place three different Hollins golfers on All-ODAC teams. Cheng graduated in 2014 as a two-time All-American, two-time ODAC Women's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year, and two-time Hollins Sportswoman of the Year.
