Big Second Half Propels Hollins

Saturday afternoon marked the finale of a four game home stand for a Hollins team still looking for their first ODAC win of the season.  Washington and Lee was the opponent for a Hollins squad that was looking to even its record at 2-2 for the four game stretch.

The match-up started with the Generals scoring first and holding the lead for the first seven minutes of the game.  After a Hollins steal and layup, the home team took their first lead of the half.  The advantage was short lived as Washington and Lee retook the lead.  After four lead changes and a tie the first half ended with the visitors enjoying a 28-26 advantage.  Hollins didn't get the second half start that they wanted as the Generals stretched the lead to 10 less than four minutes in.  Each time Hollins rallied and tried to even the score, W&L was able to turn Hollins back and keep the lead.  At teh 5:50 mrk, Hollins was finally able to come all the way back and took their first lead since the 6:19 mark of the first half.  Once Hollins gained the lead they were able to capitalize on the momentum swing as they started to stretch out their advantage.  When the final buzzer sounded Hollins had come away with their first ODAC win of the season, 64-54.

Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) capped a solid home stand with 23 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Greene finished the four game stretch with an average of 22.7 points, 6.25 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) connected on five of her eight field goal attempts en route to her fourth double-double of the season.  Wright scored 12 points to go with her 10 rebounds.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) added eight points and three rebounds while Alexa Smith (Barboursville, VA) came off the bench to score eight points and pull down four rebounds.  Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) came off the bench to record a team high five assists.

Washington and Lee had three double-digit scorers led by Katy Watson with 15.  Megan Marks added 12 points while Shelbi Hendricks scored 11.  Watson, Marks, and Paige Corvino each recorded seven rebounds helping the Generals enjoy a 35-32 advantage on the boards.

Hollins will look to build on their recent momentum with a trip to ODAC preseason #1 Guilford College on Tuesday.  The game with the Quakers is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm.
