Wire to Wire Hollins Win

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Warren Wilson College, January 18, 2013

Box Score

Hollins took a break from ODAC competition on Friday night when they played host to Warren Wilson College.  Hollins took the court against the Owls looking for their third win in their past six games.

After winning the opening tip, Hollins scored the first basket of the game and never looked back.  After having the game tied at 4-4, Hollins exploded and built the lead to as many as 17 during a first half that never saw Hollins trail.  However, the Owls had plenty of fight and after hitting four straight three pointers found themselves down just eight in the waning minutes of the first half.  Hollins regrouped from the three point barrage and scored the final four points of the half and took a 41-29 lead into the break.  The home team came out strong in the second half and built the lead to 26 over the first five minutes.  Hollins led by as many as 32 points during the second frame and cruised to a 77-57 non-conference victory.

Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) led Hollins with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) just missed another double-double by scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) added 10 points, four rebounds, and five assists.  Another Hollins single game record fell when first-year point guard Kelly Maxey (Leesburg, VA) handed out her 11th assist of the game, besting the old record of 10 assists set in 1993.  Maxey also scored seven points while Ella Oakley (Australia) and Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) each added six.

The Owls were led by Dani Henderson and her 17 points.  Jacina Hall scored 16 points and seven rebounds while Lilvia Bradbury added seven points and seven rebounds.

Hollins will try to build a win streak tomorrow when they host Randolph-Macon College.  The game with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm and the three Hollins seniors will be honored prior to opening tip.
