First Half Dooms Hollins

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Randolph-Macon College, January 19, 2013

Box Score

Less than 24 hours after picking up a non-conference win over Warren Wilson College, the Hollins basketball team was back in action when they hosted Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets defeated Hollins in Ashland back in December the home team was looking to exact some revenge and pick up their second straight ODAC home win.

The game started with the two teams exchanging baskets over the first few minutes of play.  The Yellow Jackets took the first lead by hitting a three pointer and giving the road team the lead.  Hollins responded and took a three point lead of their own, 16-13.  After Hollins had built the lead to as many as five, Randolph-Macon went on an 11 point run to seize control of the first half.  The Yellow Jackets began to stretch the lead and after 26 free throws and 18 Hollins turnovers the visitors found themselves with a 19 point halftime advantage.  The second half started with Hollins looking to make an early run and cut the lead.  However each time Hollins went on a small run, Macon answered and kept their hosts from making any significant progress into cutting the lead.  Hollins was able to cut the lead to 14 but could get no closer as Randolph-Macon came away with the 80-56 ODAC win.

Hollins took time to honor their seniors before the game and the backcourt duo of Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) and Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) didn't disappoint the home fans.  Forrest led Hollins with 19 points, five rebounds, and two steals while Greene added 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Post player Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) recorded another double-double as she grabbed a game high 16 rebounds to go with her 13 points.

Randolph-Macon got 21 points apiece from Sarah Parsons and Katie Anderson.  Kellie Cortina scored the first five points of the game for the Yellow Jackets en route to 12 points while Khajae Hester added 10.  Anderson led the Jackets with seven rebounds and Parsons swiped a game high five steals.

Hollins will look to get back on track on Wednesday when they host ODAC rival Lynchburg College at 7:00pm.
