Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Meredith College, February 7, 2012

Box Score

Hollins stepped out of conference on Tuesday night when they hosted Meredith College.  It was a break from ODAC competition before a crucial cross-town match up with Roanoke College on Saturday.  Hollins was coming off a flat effort against Lynchburg College in their last outing and started the game tonight the same way.  Hollins trailed 9-1 in the early going before finding their stride.  Hollins went on a 16-1 run to seize control of the contest.  Behind 65% first half shooting, Hollins carried a 13 point lead into the break.  The halftime break could not stop Hollins as they built the lead to as many as 25 during the second half.  When the buzzer sounded, Hollins ended the night with a 90-70 victory.

Hollins enjoyed their best shooting game of the season by hitting 29 of 53 shots, 54.7%.  Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) led the way for Hollins with 18 points.  Tahmaseb connected on all eight of her shots from the field, including a three pointer, and was perfect from the free throw line.  Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) also scored 18 points to go with four rebounds, eight assists, and six steals.  It was a record setting night for Greene who eclipsed the Hollins single season record of 98 assists and currently sits atop the ODAC with 101 helpers.  Carrie Cox (Lynch Station, VA/Altavista) ended the game with 13 points and six rebounds after pacing Hollins with eight first half points.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) added six points and six rebounds but it was Forrest's work on the defensive end of the floor that was huge for Hollins.  Forrest played 19 minutes in the first half guarding Megan Rahn, the NCAA's third leading scorer.  Forrest held Rahn to just six points on seven shots.  Despite giving up 21 offensive rebounds to their visitors, Hollins enjoyed a 47-36 advantage on the glass.

Rahn ended the game with 20 points while Key Bailey added 18 points and eight rebounds.  Kristen Alford scored 13 and Bryana Holmes chipped in with six.

Hollins sits two games ahead of Roanoke College in the ODAC standings and will host the Maroons in a crucial ODAC game on Saturday.  The 4:00 contest will go along way in determining who grabs one of the final slots in the upcoming ODAC Tournament.
