Hollins Takes ODAC Opener |

After three close losses to open the season, Hollins hosted Emory & Henry College on opening night in the ODAC. The Wasps came into the game with a 1-0 mark while Hollins sported an 0-3 record, losing each game by four points. The two teams had split the series each of the last two seasons. The game started with both teams feeling each other out and after four and half minutes the score was tried at 6-6. The Wasps started hitting shots from long range to build a lead as large as seven. Hollins turned up the defensive pressure and pulled to with one at the break. Emory came out and again built the lead and held it until Hollins tied the score at 46-46 with 10 minutes left in the game. Hollins took the lead and started to build on it over the next five minutes. The lead for the home team was 10 with four and a half minutes to go. The Wasps made one more run and cut the lead to four over the next two minutes. Hollins hit their free throws down the stretch and pulled away for a 74-62 ODAC win. The Hollins starting backcourt of Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) and Lacire Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) each had solid all-around games. Greene had 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals while Forrest added 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Forrest forced seven turnovers against the Wasps' starting point guard. Sophomore forward Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) had the best night of her young career. Tahmaseb hit 12 of 15 free throws en route to a game high 18 points. Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) scored nine, hitting her 11th three pointer of the season, while adding 10 rebounds. Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) also grabbed 10 rebounds while adding seven points. With Hollins trailing in the first half, Rachael Crowder (Buena Vista, VA/Perry McClure) came off the bench to score three points, grab four rebounds, and come up with a big steal. Emory & Henry was lead by senior forward Ashlyn Baird and her 18 points. Jalan McPherson added 17 points while first-year post player added seven. After hitting seven shots from long range in the first half, the Wasps went cold in the second, hitting just three of 14. Hollins will enjoy the Thanksgiving Break before coming back to campus and hosting Randolph College. The game with the WildCats will be played on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:00pm.
