Royals Hold off Hollins

The Hollins University basketball team was finally back home after an 11 day, three game road trip.  Hollins hosted Eastern Mennonite who currently sits second in the ODAC standings.  The Royals defeated Hollins earlier in the season, 67-40.  Hollins scored first to take an early lead, but neither team could get anything going and the score was tied at 12-12 with 11 minutes left in the half.  The Royals went on a 14-0 run before Hollins responded with a 9-0 run of their own.  Leading by three, the visitors scored the final six points of the half to take a nine point lead to the break.  Hollins came out and quickly cut the lead to four in the first five minutes of the second stanza.  EMU righted themselves and built the lead back to double-digits.  Hollins wasn't done and cut the lead to two twice during the second half but could get no closer.  The Royals hit enough of their free throws down the stretch to hold off Hollins, 75-68.

The ODAC's leading scorer Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) recorded a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs.  Backcourt mate Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) added 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) tallied seven points and five rebounds while Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA/Northlake Christian) came off the bench to score five..

The Royals were led by Kala Yoders and her 22 points.  Bianca Ygarza scored 18 while Alisa Brown and Stephanie Rheinheimer each scored 12. 

Hollins outrebound their visitors 39-33 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive boards.

Hollins will travel across town to face Roanoke College on Friday night.  The game at the Bast Center is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm.
