Hollins Gets Into ODAC Mix

Lexington, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Washington and Lee University, February 9, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins University basketball team, fresh off a close loss to ODAC leader Guilford, traveled to Lexington to face Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins went into the matchup with the Generals looking to move up the ODAC standings as the season ending tournament looms right around the corner.  In January, Hollins bested W&L by 10 points and a season sweep would be big for a Hollins team that lost out on trip to the tournament last year because of tiebreakers with ODAC opponents.

Hollins jumped on their hosts and quickly took the lead.  Hollins built the lead to as many as four points but each time they looked to pull away, Washington and Lee battled back to tie the score.  The Generals took their first lead of the game with less than three minutes to play but Hollins quickly tied the score.  When the halftime buzzer sounded the game was tied at 27-27.  During the first half there were a pair of lead changes and eight ties.  The second half was much of the same with the two teams trading the lead until the Generals seized control and were poised to pull away.  Hollins tied the game for the 14th time and then took the lead going into the final 10 minutes of play.  Hollins never looked back and steadily built the lead en route to a 64-56 ODAC victory.

Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) led Hollins with 21 points.  Forrest added nine rebounds while post player Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds.  Alexa Smith (Barboursville, VA) came off the bench to score 10 points and Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) pitched in with six points and a team high five assists.

Katy Wilson paced the Generals with 16 points and six rebounds.  Rachel Warrick added 13 points while Megan Marks reached double figures with 11 points.

With the win, Hollins moves into ninth place in the ODAC standings and will look to continue their win streak as they return home on Monday to play host to Randolph College.  Hollins will tip with the WildCats at 7:00pm.
