Hollins Rings in Holidays with Huge Road Win |

Lexington, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Washington & Lee University, December 7, 2011 Box Score Hollins traveled to Lexington to face Washington & Lee University on Wednesday night. The Generals were picked in a tie for third in the ODAC preseason poll. Hollins brought a 2-1 league mark into the game with the 2009-10 ODAC Champions. W&L scored first and built the lead to a high of 11 with 6:40 left in the first half. The visitors went on a 13-2 run to tie the game with less than three minutes remaining. The Generals led by just two, 32-30, at the break. The second half saw both teams trade the lead back and forth for the first seven minutes. After a Hollins layup and steal, the visitors were able to take the lead by three with 10 minutes remaining. Hollins never gave up the lead as they played virtually error free basketball, only one turnover down the stretch, en route to a huge upset on the road, 63-56. Lacie Forest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) scored a game high 19 points to lead Hollins. Forrest added four rebounds and three assists while backcourt running mate Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) chipped in with 11 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) fouled out but not before she scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) continued to give Hollins a strong inside presence with her eight points and 10 rebounds. The win was the first against the Generals since January 23, 2004. Washington & Lee got 15 points and 10 rebounds from senior Becca Bolton. Meg Ingram added 13 while Katy Wilson added 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Generals enjoyed a 40-35 advantage on the boards but turned to ball over 15 times. Hollins will go into the holiday break with a 3-1 ODAC mark. That has Hollins sitting in fourth place going into a matchup with Guilford College in January. The game with the Quakers (picked 2nd in the ODAC preseason poll) is scheduled for January 3rd at 7:00pm. |
