Bump in the Road for Hollins

Hollins was back in action on Friday night when they traveled to Virginia Wesleyan for an ODAC match-up.  The Marlins currently reside in second place in the ODAC while Hollins sits in fifth.  After hitting a game opening three pointer, the Marlins took control of the game and built the lead to 33-10 with just five minutes remaining before the break.  Hollins gathered themselves and closed out the first frame with a 15-4 run and cut the deficit to 12 at the break.  The second half started as a back and forth affair and Hollins trailed by just nine with 11 minutes to play.  However, the home team went on a roll down the stretch and pulled away fro the 69-42 ODAC victory.  With the loss, Hollins fell back to the .500 mark at 4-4 in league play.

The ODAC's leading scorer Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) was held to just 13 points after going to for over 20 in each of her last two outings.  Greene also added four rebounds and three assists.  Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) came off the bench to score nine on four of 10 shooting.  Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) also scored nine while Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) and Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) each added four.  Morris led Hollins with seven rebounds.  Hollins struggled from the field in the second half and shot just 31.6% for the game.

Virginia Wesleyan had a balanced attack with 10 different players in the score column.  Sarah Seipp hit a game opening three pointer en route to a game high 17 points.  Jocelyn Spencer added 11 while Symonne Newsome scored nine.

Hollins will continue their road trip tomorrow as they travel to Ashland to face Randolph-Macon.  The game with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled to start at 2:00pm.
