Lynchburg, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Lynchburg College, January 7, 2012

Box Score

After losing on a buzzer beater last night, Hollins hit the road on a mission to get back in the win column.  Lynchburg was the destination as Hollins went to do battle with a Hornet squad that had just picked up their first ODAC victory last night against Randolph.  Hollins had trouble finding their legs and fell behind by 10 just five minutes into the match-up.  After a 30 second timeout by coach Phillips, the team responded and started to get back into the game.  Hollins had come all the way back when they tied the game at 24-24 with less than five minutes left in the half.  The Hornets were not able to stop the Hollins run and the visitors took a 36-33 lead into the break.  Hollins kept the lead for much of the first part of the second half but after a Lynchburg bucket, found themselves trailing 53-523 with nine minutes left to play.  The lead went back and forth into the final minute when Hollins hit four straight free throws to cap a hard fought 73-71 ODAC win.

Less than 24 hours after cracking the 1,000 mark, Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) continued her hot weekend by scoring 22 points to go with her four rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) added 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Last night was unkind to Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) and Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) but they bounced back against the Hornets.  Morris scored 12 points with seven rebounds while Wright added seven points and a team high nine rebounds. Less than 24 hours after turning the ball over 29 times against the Eagles, Hollins took care of the ball committing just nine turnovers in the victory.

Lynchburg was led by Shannon Allen's 17 points.  Carly Greenlief and Caitlin Falls each added 13 points while Roslyn Alexander pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.  The Hornets enjoyed a 49-40 advantage on the glass but it wasn't enough to offset 11 Hollins steals.

Hollins will take their 4-3 ODAC mark back on the road next weekend when they travel to the east coast for a date with Virginia Wesleyan.  The game with the Marlins is scheduled for 7:00pm on Friday night.
