Rematch Goes to Hollins

Emory, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Emory & Henry College, January 30, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins basketball team was back on the road Wednesday night when they traveled to Emory & Henry.  The matchup with the Wasps marks the second of three consecutive road games for a Hollins team looking for back to back ODAC wins for the first time this season.

Looking to avenge an earlier two point loss, Hollins jumped out to the lead right off the opening tip.  Hollins built the lead to as many as five and controlled the game for a majority of the first half.  Emory & Henry mounted a rally and with less than three minutes left to play in the half, the game was tied at 32-32.  The home team gained the momentum by scoring eight unanswered points to take a 40-32 lead into the break.  Hollins came out in the second half and slowly cut into the Wasp lead.  With less than ten minutes left to play, the road team had completed the comeback and retook the lead.  Over the next several minutes of play, Hollins built the lead to double figures.  The Wasps hit a couple of three pointers down the stretch but Hollins answered each and every score with points of their own.  Hollins made their free throws down the stretch and when the final buzzer sounded the road team had their second straight ODAC win, 76-63.

Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) hit 15 of her 19 free throw attempts en route to 37 points.  Greene added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) scored 10 points while Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) added nine points and a game high 13 rebounds.  Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) came off the bench to score seven points.  Hollins shot an incredible 55.6% from the field and their defense in the second half held the Wasps to just 23 points.

Michelle Williams led Emory & Henry with 14 points off the bench.  Karina Farr added 10 points eight rebounds.

Hollins will look for a third consecutive win on Saturday when they travel to face new ODAC member Shenandoah University.  The game with the Hornets is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm.
