Emory, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Emory & Henry College, January 24, 2012 The Hollins University basketball team was back on the road on Tuesday night when they traveled to Emory & Henry. It was the fifth road game in the past six games for a young Hollins team that had only picked up one win since coming back from the holiday break. During that stretch, Hollins had fallen from fourth to seventh in the ODAC standings. The Wasps jumped on their visitors by hitting a three pointer to start the game. A few minutes later Hollins took the lead and built it to as many as 11 during the first half. A late E&H run cut the deficit to four as Hollins enjoyed a 46-42 lead at the break. Hollins was able to come out in the second half and rebuild the lead to double digits led by five different players scoring in double figures. Hollins went on to a much needed 91-83 ODAC road win. Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) led the scoring outburst by Hollins with a game high 21 points. Morris, eighth in the ODAC in rebounding, grabbed 10 boards. Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA/Northlake Christian) came off the bench to score 19 points in just 13 minutes of play. Chesne hit eight of her 10 field goal attempts. Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) battled foul trouble but still add 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and seven steals. Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) and Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) each scored 11. Valerie Beale led the Wasps with 22 points. Michelle Williams added 20 points while Carlyta Hamm added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Ashlyn Baird pulled down 10 rebounds helping the Wasps 49-41 advantage on the glass. Hollins will look to go for two in a row on Saturday when they travel to Lynchburg to face Randolph College. The game with the WildCats is scheduled to tip at 4:00pm. |
