First Half Not Enough to Pull Upset

Harrisonburg, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Eastern Mennonite University, February 16, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins basketball team traveled to Harrisonburg for a matchup with the ODAC's best in their regular season finale.  Eastern Mennonite sits atop the ODAC standings and will be the top seed in next weeks 12 team ODAC Tournament.  Due to the unbalanced schedule, it was the first time the two teams have seen one another this season.

Hollins, in need of the upset win in order to move up the ODAC standings, came out and played a solid first half against the Royals.  Hollins took the lead on the games first basket and never gave it up en route to taking a two point lead into the break.  During the first frame, Hollins led by as many as seven points but couldn't put the home team away.  At the start of the second half, Holliins once again began to pull away from Eastern Mennonite.  Hollins enjoyed a lead as large as five points during the first part of the second frame.  The Royals wouldn't lay down and with 10 minutes left to play the game was tied at 47-47.  Hollins again scored to take the lead but that would be the last time that the road team would have the advantage.  Eastern Mennonite outscored Hollins by seven the rest of the way and came away with a hard fought 73-66 ODAC win.

In their final regular season ODAC game, the senior backcourt of Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) and Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) once again paced Hollins.  Greene scored a game high 22 points while recording eight rebounds and four assists.  Forrest added 19 points, three rebounds, and a game high five assists.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) kept Hollins close on the boards by grabbing 12 rebounds to go with her five points while fellow post player Ella Oakley (Queanbeyan, AU) added six points and three rebounds.

Stephanie Rheinheimer paced the Royals with 14 points.  Bianca Ygarza recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Kelya Baltimore added 10 points.

With the loss Hollins will have to travel on Monday for the first round of the ODAC Tournament.  Hollins will face off with Shenandoah University at 7:00pm.
