Big Second Half Not Enough for Hollins

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Virginia Wesleyan College February 4, 2010

Taking the court for the third time in the last five days, Hollins hosted Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday night.  The game was moved up a day due to the impending inclement weather.  The Marlins used their considerable size advantage to take a double-digit lead into the break.  Hollins showed no quit and had their biggest second half of the season by scoring 48 points on the visitors.  However the big second half effort was not enough and Wesleyan won 100-76.

Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) had one of her best overall games of the season by scoring 27 points, grabbing five rebounds, dishing out five assists and recording three steals.  Tamara Phillips (Roanoke, VA/Lord Botetourt) had a big game of her own by scoring 22, while collecting five rebounds and three assists.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook), left, came off the bench to score nine and grab a team high nine rebounds.  Brittany Hanavan (Wilton, CT/Wilton) and Elise Newsome (Austin, TX/Austin Waldorf) each added six.

The Marlins placed three starters in double-digits led by Kristen Blalock and her 17 points.  Fellow post player Maggie Davis added 13 and Kristina Jameson chipped in 11.  However, Virginia Wesleyan was led by first year guard Rachel Miller and her 18 points off the bench.

Hollins will be able to take some time off as they don't play again until next Thursday when they host regionally ranked Randolph-Macon College.  The game will tip at 7:00pm
