Second Half Rally Propels Guilford

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Guilford College February 2, 2010

 

The Quakers of Guilford College traveled through sleet and rain to play Hollins on Tuesday night.  Hollins jumped out to an early lead before Guilford pulled back even in the first 10 minutes.  The lead changed hands several times until Morgan Dean (Draper, VA/Pulaski) grabbed an offensive rebound and scored as time expired giving Hollins a five point halftime lead.  Guilford answered quickly in the second half to retake the lead.  Hollins battled back and the game was tied with 12 minutes to go.  Behind 60% second half shooting, the Quakers were able to secure the lead and hold on for a 92-75 ODAC win.

Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) netted 34 points while grabbing nine rebounds and making three steals.  Tamara Phillips (Roanoke, VA/Lord Botetourt), left, made four more three pointers en route to 14 points.  Phillips is sitting at 62 made three pointers this season breaker her own school record of 60 set last season.  Dean added eight rebounds to go with seven points while Elise Newsome (Austin, TX/Austin Waldorf) added seven points of her own.

Guilford connected on 14-32 shots from long range with Ann Seufer and Lauren LeFevers making 11 of them.  Seufer scored 26 and LeFevers 19.  Jazlyn Gibbs scored 18 while Alexa Williams added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Due to impending weather Hollins will play Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday February 4th at 6:00pm.
