Richie Waggoner

Richie Waggoner: Head Coach

Richie Waggoner came to Hollins after six seasons as head coach of Lynchburg College. While with the Hornets he compiled a 67-84 record, making three ODAC tournaments and finishing as high as third in the regular season standings. In 2003-2004 he led Lynchburg to a 16-10 record, the school's best in ten years.

Waggoner received his B.B.A. from Roanoke College in 1992 and served as an assistant with the women's basketball team there for nine seasons. During his stint at Roanoke, the Maroons won seven league championships and made eight NCAA tournament appearances, reaching the Final Eight in 1991 and the Sweet 16 in 1992.

In addition to working with the women's basketball team at Roanoke, Waggoner also served as an assistant at Glenvar High School. In 1997, he helped guide the Highlanders to a Virginia Group A State Championship.

Jim Phillips: Assistant Coach

Jim Phillips joined the Hollins coaching staff in 2008-09. Phillips is a graduate of Fairmont State College with a bachelor's degree in education. He has been an educator and coach for the last 20 years in the public school system. For the last 15 years, Phillips had been a member of the Botetourt County community where he has organized and coached several teams to success through high school basketball, middle school basketball, and AAU basketball. He looks forward to helping build the women's basketball program at Hollins University.
