Hollins Lacrosse Program Gets New Leader

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse Tabs O'Leary to Lead Program, December 5, 2012

Hollins University Director of Athletics David Zinn is pleased to announce the hiring of Danielle O’Leary to the position of head lacrosse coach and instructor of physical education.  After a nationwide search, O’Leary comes to the Roanoke, VA campus from New England College where she served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.

A 2010 graduate of the Henniker, NH, college, O’Leary was brought onto the coaching staff after her four year playing career.  In addition to serving as a captain in the lacrosse program, O’Leary was also a four year member of the New England ice hockey team.  Off the field she excelled in the classroom, being named to the ECAC All-Academic team and serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

“I am excited to work at an institution with such great traditions at Hollins University.  The lacrosse program has a great history of producing quality female athletes.”  O’Leary continued “I look forward to making an immediate impact on campus and building on the program that has already been developed.”

After graduation, O’Leary continued her education by earning her Master of Science in Physical Education at Ithaca College.  In addition to coaching at the collegiate level, she headed the freshman girl’s lacrosse team at Concord High School where she served as a substitute teacher.
