Hollins Alumnae Awards
Hollins Medal Upon the approval of the Board of Trustees, the university awards the Hollins Medal to individuals who embody the ideals and values set forth in our mission statement. Hollins Medals are awarded “for distinction, service to Hollins University and to woman’s life and education in general.” The medal is a personal manifestation of mutual affection to those who have shown a demonstrated commitment to Hollins.
Established in 2006, the Distinguished Alumnae Award recognizes individual alumnae who have brought distinction to themselves and to Hollins through broad and inspiring personal or career achievements, volunteer service, or contributions to society.
Distinguished Young Alumna Award
Pat Thomas Bain ’49 Award The Alumnae Association has long been an ardent supporter of The Hollins Fund, and to that end in 1993 established the Pat Thomas Bain Award as a loving tribute to one of our most loyal alumnae, the late Pat Thomas Bain, Class of 1949. Pat served Hollins as a member of the Board of Trustees for more than 14 years, until her death in 1992. The Bain Award is presented at reunion to the individual or group whose efforts have achieved a significant increase in Hollins Fund participation. Rath Award This award is named in honor of the late Rath sisters Luise, Class of 1919; Gertrud, Class of 1922; and Virginia, Class of 1924, who were great-granddaughters of Hollins’ founder Charles Lewis Cocke. The Rath Award is given annually to an alumna or alumnae whose participation in the life of Hollins has been extraordinary and whose personal investment of time and effort in the institution over the years represents the very best of the Hollins spirit. It is our tradition to present the Rath Award at Reunion. Athletic Hall of Fame
Established in 1994, the Athletic Hall of Fame honors members of the Hollins community (alumnae and faculty) who have demonstrated superior athletic accomplishments at Hollins, as well as sportsmanship, character, and leadership at Hollins and/or in their community. Induction of new members takes place at Alumnae Reunion each year. Betsy Green Grubbs ’72 Award The Alumnae Board established the award in 2002 in honor of former Alumnae Relations Director and member of the class of 1972, Betsy Green Grubbs. The award is presented to a Hollins alumna or Hollins community member who has made a significant contribution in the arts. Hollins Award for Volunteer Excellence (HAVE) The Alumnae Association Board of Directors presented this award to alumnae who exemplify excellence in volunteering for Hollins through a specific project or for overall spirit.
