Alumnae Admissions Volunteers

Alumnae Admissions volunteers strive to assure the character, quality, and diversity of the student body by encouraging bright, talented students to apply and attend Hollins. By sharing their own experiences, alumnae volunteers help students get to know Hollins a little better.

AARs may choose to become involved with one or more of the following activities:

Alumnae Referral Scholarships
One of the best recruitment strategies is the alumnae referral. Year after year students tell us they first heard of Hollins through an alumna.

Bringing Prospective Students to Campus
The Admissions office hosts several Open Houses each year for prospective students and their families. We also welcome students to call for customized visits during the week and on Saturday mornings.

Calling/Writing/E-mailing
Talking to students at particularly important times, such as encouraging them to apply, congratulating them on being accepted, and encouraging them to enroll, is vital to our success.

Information Sessions
Information sessions are held for students in your locality who have not been able to visit campus. It is an informal meeting with a student to answer her questions, tell her about Hollins, and learn a little about her interests. Sessions typically take about an hour.

College Fairs
College Fairs are opportunities for us to share information with prospective students and their families. Fairs normally occur in the fall and spring. Most fairs are usually in the evenings during the week or on Sunday afternoons. College fairs typically last for two hours.

High School Visits
You are always welcome to visit schools in your area. Visits include meeting with the college counselor and/or students, as well as following up with the student and counselor with a note. Visits typically last about 30 minutes.

Hosting a Prospect Party
In select areas, it helps to have informal gatherings with a few alumnae, parents, and students. These usually occur in March or April to encourage students to enroll and again in the summer as “send-off parties” as they leave for their first year at Hollins. Gatherings are as informal as backyard barbecues, simple desserts and coffee, or some other similar event.
