Batten Scholars

Hollins celebrates stellar academic achievement and leadership potential through its Batten Scholar program. Candidates are selected from Hollins Scholar Award candidates (see criteria listed in Academic Excellence Scholarships chart) after a review of their records by a committee of Hollins faculty members. Batten Scholars candidates will be invited to participate in the scholars' interview weekend, held on campus.
To be considered, you must submit your application for admission by January 10.

Here are a few of our Batten Scholars:

Erin Leigh Adams '08, from Eaton, Ohio, is a psychology major with a concentration in neuroscience and is completing her pre-med requirements. She is involved with the Batten Leadership Institute, SCAVAS (The Student Coalition Against Viruses, Adaware and Spyware), theatre, and is an Admissions Ambassador.

Leah Michelle Twichell ’09, from Dallas, Texas, is an art history major who is also completing an Arts Management Certificate. She is a Coalition Against Sexual Assault volunteer, on the Scholarship Committee, and is involved in the Batten Leadership Institute. Leah is an avid supporter of Study Abroad, traveling to Spain and Italy during her first year at Hollins, and hopes to study in Italy her junior year.

Emily Elliott '10, from Pampa, Texas, plans to major in English/creative writing and double minor in theatre and film/photography. Emily is her residence hall's alternate senator and a work-study student in the Office of the Provost.

Writtika Roy '08, from Bangladesh, is a women's studies major with minors in biology and chemistry (pre-med). She is the Global Interest Association president, Intercultural Community Board treasurer, Coalition Against Sexual Assault volunteer, Admissions Ambassador, Academic Policy Board member, and involved with the Batten Leadership Institute. She is also a Global Village resident, library work-study student, and QR Center tutor.
