Need-Based Assistance
Does Your Financial Situation Require Assistance to Fund College?
Need-based financial aid is available from Hollins to students who can demonstrate that they require additional money to help pay for school. The amount you are eligible to receive is determined from information you provide on the government’s FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The application requires you to provide specific data about your family’s finances to the U.S. Department of Education. The deadline to complete the FAFSA is February 15. You’ll find an online application form at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Paper FAFSA forms are also available from Hollins.

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)

$750 - $1,300
|
• These grants go to first- and second-year Pell recipients completing a rigorous high school course load.
• Eligibility determined by Hollins and the U.S. Department of Education from information families provide on the FAFSA.
• Second-year students must have earned a 3.0 GPA after completion of first year.

Federal National SMART Grant
|
$3,000 - $4,000
|
• These grants are available for third- and fourth-year Pell recipients majoring in computer science, engineering, a foreign language, a life science, mathematics, a physical science, technology, or multidisciplinary studies.
• Eligibility requires students to maintain a 3.0 GPA.

| Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) |
$1,000 - $2,600 |
• These federal grants go to undergraduates who demonstrate high financial need. The grants do not have to be repaid. |

$1,000 - $3,000 |
• Through the federal work-study program, students can work on campus in jobs that relate whenever possible to their skills, interests, or career objectives. |

• Hollins processes these loans, which have a low fixed interest rate. Repayment does not begin until six months after graduation. |
| Perkins Loans |

• These loans are arranged through Hollins and carry a fixed interest rate of 5%. Payments are only $40 per month after graduation from Hollins. |
