Inter-Library Loan The Interlibrary Loan Department requests library materials from or supplies materials to other libraries. Books are borrowed or lent and photocopies of articles are acquired or supplied. Fees are charged to some users. Purpose To provide members of the Hollins Community with research materials not owned by Libraries on this campus. Interlibrary loan service is available to faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students of Hollins University. Requests accepted in person or via the Library's electronic form. Requests should include all bibliographic information asked for on the book request form / article request form. Be sure to include the source for the information. If the source is a multiple database provider note which specific database. (i.e. FirstSearch - Art Index, Economic Literature, etc.) Current copyright law prohibits ordering more than 5 articles from one journal title from within the last 5 years. For this reason patrons may be asked to limit requests from a particular journal title. Items borrowed through interlibrary loan must be used in such a way as not to violate the principles of Fair Use Response time varies. Interlibrary Loan requests are usually sent to the prospective lending library within 24 hours. Allow one to three weeks for a loan to be received. Arrival time depends on several factors, including whether the item is immediately available, the transit time, and hours of operation at both ends of the transaction. Occasionally we are unable to fill a request and will inform you if this is the case. Notification will be by phone or email when items are received. Check the ILL office if you have not been notified within three weeks of submitting your request. The lending library determines the length of the loan period for books, usually between two and six weeks. Renewals should be requested before the due date. Many libraries do not allow renewals so patrons are advised to plan their research and complete the use of ILL materials before the due date. Return borrowed materials to the Interlibrary Loan Office. Charges from lending libraries are charged to the Faculty or Graduate students department. Undergraduates students are not charged for Interlibrary Loans. The conditions of Interlibrary Loan services are set by national and regional codes as well as by the policies of each lending library. Libraries are generally not willing to lend the following: Bound or single issues of periodicals Please consult the Reference Librarian about any research material not held by this library. No limit has been set on the number of items a patron may borrow. However, only five items per person will be ordered on any given day. For the fastest service submit your orders as early in the semester as possible. Check the online catalog for books or the Wyndham Robertson Library's Periodical Holding List for periodical titles and dates before initiating an ILL request. We can not order what we own. Also, be sure to include your source on the ILL form. 060408 |
