Administrative Computer Services

Hollins University utilizes the BANNER system from SCT Corporation for administrative functions of the University. This system is based on the relational database technology from ORACLE Corporation. For applications requiring the use of DBMS (Database management systems) software, the University standard for institutional and departmental databases is the ORACLE DBMS. The BANNER database consists of various modules including Student Information System, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Finance and Development, and Alumnae Affairs.

Administrative computing runs a DEC UNIX Alpha hardware platform for the ORACLE and BANNER system. Administrative Computing and departments currently use SQL (Standard Query Language) and report writer tools such as SQL*Plus and SQLAssist. Development work is under way to deploy Windows-based Graphical User Interface Forms. Future development will include the integration of World Wide Web and windows based reporting tools.
