At Hollins computers are an integral part of learning, whether your major is computer science or art or French. Hollins has a sophisticated fiber-optic computer network that links all student rooms, faculty offices, classrooms, and laboratories to each other and to the Internet.
When you graduate from Hollins, you'll be able to flourish in the technological workplace. That's because in your four years here, you'll be exposed to a variety of computer-based applications. For example:
- Many faculty members use Web course-authoring software to enhance the classroom experience.
- Others use graphics programs to provide visual explanations of difficult concepts, particularly in the sciences.
- In the library, you'll have 24-hour access to the online catalog and an impressive array of electronic research tools, including reference materials and full-text journals.
- You can also view course reserves online and print them from any network connection on campus.
To graduate from Hollins, you'll be asked to demonstrate proficiency in standard applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software. You must also show an understanding of Boolean operators. Hollins students also have the opportunity to take the Virginia Technology Exam, recognized by employers throughout the state as a standard of computing proficiency.
